Unilever’s Power Brand Cif inverts cleaning norms by using ‘friendly bacteria' as a powerful way to clean homes.

A person is kneeling on a carpeted floor, holding a can of Cif Infinite Clean aimed at a dirty white shoe in the foreground. The room has a cozy decor with a green couch, wooden furniture, and various items scattered around.

Unilever has today announced the launch of a new, science-backed, all-in-one cleaning solution that can be used anywhere in the home in response to evolving cleaning needs. Using the power of probiotics, or ‘friendly bacteria’, 60-year-old brand Cif is changing the way consumers think about cleaning their homes.

Well-established when it comes to our gut and skin health, even our homes have a microbiome, and the new product, Cif Infinite Clean, leverages cutting-edge microbiome technology using a bespoke blend of natural probiotics to transform home cleaning.

The 100% natural probiotics used in the cleaning formula remain dormant until they encounter dirty surfaces where they germinate and feed on grime, reaching hard-to-clean areas for a thorough clean that lasts up to three days.

Combining nature’s probiotics with effective cleaning ingredients, this patent-pending bioscience-based formula delivers a powerful clean across hard surfaces including kitchen worktops, glass, mirrors and even electronic equipment such as laptops, mobiles and iPads, leaving them clean and streak-free. With its fresh and modern fragrances, Cif Infinite Clean also tackles bad smells with long-lasting odour protection on soft furnishings such as sofas, cushions and carpets.

The cleaning power of Cif, plus the allergen protection of probiotics, makes this multi-purpose innovation suitable for the millions of households that now own an animal[a] and are looking for pet-safe cleaning solutions that tackle pet-related lingering smells on home surfaces, even after cleaning.

Eduardo Campanella, Business Group President, Unilever Home Care, said: “We're challenging traditional cleaning norms and how people think about cleaning their homes by creating a disruptive cleaning product that harnesses the potency of nature’s probiotics, to not just clean our homes but to provide a longer-lasting clean. This is the power of Cif Infinite Clean; an all-in-one product that keeps on cleaning even after you’ve stopped.”

Cif Infinite Clean has premium packaging and a continuous 'mist-technology' trigger system to deliver the probiotic cleaner across all surfaces. It will be available in a ‘Re-load’ pack format, reducing plastic waste by 50%[b] compared to purchasing a new trigger spray each time. Cif Infinite Clean will launch in the UK in April 2025 in major retailers, before expanding to other markets including France, Poland and Italy.

Cif, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, saw double-digit growth last year due to its social media focus and popularity for cleaning white trainers on TikTok.
